Also, I'm not entirely clear on how the page is organized, or what your original assignment was so I don't know what it is exactly I should be doing. One of my classmates, Mitch Davis, is supposed to be doing the same thing I am and I don't think he's been very successful either. I'll have a talk with my teacher tomorrow, and maybe I'll be able to figure out how everything works as she just had a talk with your teacher. So if one of you wants to fill us in on what you've done so far, or what you need help on, or how your page is organized, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

\n From what I hear, your teacher was less than satisfied with the paraphrase of "It Is A Beauteous Evening" so my teacher (Ms. Swanson) asked me to help you out. I know I was supposed to wait for an invitaion to join your page, but since my homework is to edit it I decided to join on my own. I hope that's okay. Here is my paraphrase:

\nIt is a beauteous Evening, calm and free;- Wordsworth is making use of personification by giving an inanimate object, the evenng, the human traits calm and free. The word calm brings conotations of being without strong emotion; free has several meanings. It could mean without physical or emotional burdens, or more literally that the evening has no laws or obligations to abide by.
\n
\nThe holy time is quiet as a Nun-In this simile, Wordsworth compares the qulities of the natural world around him to the respect and reverence a nun might show toward the Christian god during a religous holy time.
\n
\nBreathless with adoration; the broad sun- I wasn't entirely sure how nature having an underlying energy and power came out of this line; if someone could clarify for me that'd be great : ) Again, personification (sun - breathless) Also, the use of the word "broad" is significant to this line, because although the subject of the poem is the evening and the sun is so closely tied to day, this line shows how all encompassing the sun is; how "broad" its influence is. Yet WW ( maybe we could use an acronym for Wordsworth?) still shows the Evening's authority by describing the sun as being in adoration.

\nI don't have any more time to work on this today (it's Friday!!), I'll post another message with the rest of my paraphrases by Sunday afternoon (hopefully that way you'll get my message Monday morning).

\nSo, what to do? Put things in your own words, first of all. Expand upon what someone else might offer, develop their thought in your words.

\nSecond, choose your essay question more carefully. Look at past Cambridge papers (they're on the WWW and on AGS Intranet) and try to formulate a more demanding question that does not let you simply plagiarise.

\nLastly, I am glad those soft porn images left the site. Think of your audience: how appropriate are your images and text for a high school classroom, especially one that includes American girls?
